What Needs to Die for You to Live Again?
5:12

It's Easter, Passover, Spring time.

I like to think of this time of year as a time to "start again".

And for something to start again, something needs to die.

What does that even mean? Here are a few examples:

  • For the external world, exclusion and intolerance can go the way of the dodo.  Emotional immaturity, the inability to listen, basically everything that creates divides and rifts among us - these things can die as well. Then, kindness and compassion can be invited in.
  • For the individual and their internal world, many things can die within us to make space for the new:  behaviors, patterns, old thoughts and ideas that no longer serve us - these can all die a swift death. Then, new ways of thinking and being can take root.
  • Who we are culturally, socially, even spiritually - these too may need to die. Sometimes we don't even know what a hold our culture and family have over us!

Our personality, ego, identity, the "false self" - whatever you want to call it  - it will try to get in the way and say "but I don't want to die! this new way of being is wrong, it's not what we are used to, it's not safe, it's not comfortable" etc.

But it all needs to die if we are to awaken and "rise" in a new way of being.

Speaking of rising from the dead, I read this recently on this website:

"Easter invites us to die to every identification, so that we may strip away our false self and reveal our oneness in the universal...consciousness... Easter is an invitation, not merely to a belief or a way of living, but to a radical experience of death to the false self and of birth to an entirely new self."

Before death, there needs to be awareness.

For something to die, you need to be aware of what that something is.

Are you aware - I mean, really aware - of how you move through this world?

Many of us have "blind spots" that prevent us from truly seeing ourselves clearly.

So we get stuck.

This is where speaking with a therapist, counselor, coach, or spiritual advisor can be super supportive.  These professionals can help tease apart what is causing you to be stuck.  They tell you straight up what they see, which is not always easy to hear.

Sometimes, they invite you to choose death.

Because from death, something beautiful can arise.

Wishing you all a beautiful holiday and spring.
