Thank you, George.
Jun 08, 2023George Winston, pianist, and lovely human being, died earlier this week. I did not know him personally, but he was a huge influence in my life during high school; I remember listening to his album "December" ad nauseam and seeing him in concert a couple of times in Milwaukee.
I would sit at our piano and slowly transcribe each note of "Thanksgiving", that haunting and sad tune that permeated many of my teenage days. My first crush, also a musician, played it for me one evening after a date, both of us sitting on the piano bench, my sister still out for the evening, my parents downstairs watching the 9 o'clock news. It was a magical moment.
I now own that piano but haven't played it very often due to tenants upstairs and downstairs. I miss it.
Since everyone was away from the house I pulled out my copy of "Thanksgiving" and attempted to record a bit; one of my cats did not approve.
ORANGE CATS! lol.....
RIP Mr. Winston, your music touched so many people's hearts, mine included.
Thank you.
