wtf Barbie??

beliefs empowered the hard work Jul 28, 2023

Who here saw or is seeing the new Barbie movie?? This monologue below is apparently from the film.

I'm so disappointed. :(

Why am I disappointed? Because: It still focuses on *others* expectations. "You have to" "You're supposed to" "You must never" etc.

Where is the internal power here? Lacking sorely, which is too bad.

I get the point and agree, the feminine (which used to be in balance with the masculine - talking about eons ago, not decades ago) has been ignored and pushed aside for a loooong time.

This especially: “I'm tired of seeing myself and every woman doing the impossible for others to love us."

Three things come up for me here:

One, if you are “doing the impossible” just for the sake of wanting love from others, take a look inside to see what is causing you to do this. Do it for yourself, or, do it for others without any expectations of anything in return.

Two, if others do not love you for who you are, not what you *do*, that is their problem for not seeing the beautiful soul that you are. And if you identify with what you *do* instead of who you truly are authentically, let’s talk.

Three, if you do not love yourself first and foremost regardless of what anyone else thinks, the other two reasons above may continue to lead your life and you will remain in a victim mindset.

This monologue shows that women are STILL playing the victim, and are still looking outside of themselves for validation and love.

I see this quite often with my clients - and once that internal motivation and self-empowerment are accessed, watch out world! It does not matter one bit what society thinks, what men think, what other women think. These clients become their true authentic selves, living their best lives.

It’s a beautiful thing.

Sad that Barbie missed this opportunity.

But, I took the opportunity to rewrite this speech.  It's copied below the original if you are curious to read it.

Is it hard to be a woman in today's culture?  Yes. Yes it is.  Society weighs heavily on us.  I get it.

But perpetuating this victim mentality is not helping.

If you are “tired of seeing yourself and every woman doing the impossible for others to love you”, and are willing to start doing the hard inner work to release those beliefs that society implanted in your head, again: Let’s talk.

Would love to hear your thoughts.  Did you see the movie? What did you think? What did you think of this speech below, and my rewrite below that...?

"It is literally impossible to be a woman.

You are very beautiful and very smart... and it breaks my soul that you think you're not good enough, like we're always supposed to be extraordinary, but somehow we're always doing it wrong.

We have to be skinny, but not too much and you must not say you want to be skinny. You must say you want a healthy weight, but also… YES you have to be skinny.

You must have money, but you can’t ask for money because that would be rude.

You gotta be a boss, but you can't be tough. You must lead, but you cannot crush other people’s ideas.

You’re supposed to love being a mom, but you don’t talk about your kids all the time.

You have to be a professional, but also always take care of everyone else.

You are responsible for men’s misbehavior, WHICH IS CRAZY, but if you notice that, you’re accused of being a whine.

You're expected to keep yourself pretty for men, but not so pretty you 'try them too much' or threaten other women… because you're supposed to be part of the sorority.

You must always stand out and always be very grateful… but never forget the system is fixed, so find how to acknowledge it but remember to be grateful.

You must never grow old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never stumble, never fail or show fear and, of course, you must never be sassy.

It's very hard, it's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you. And it turns out, in fact, that not only are you doing everything WRONG, but also, everything that happens is YOUR FAULT.

I'm tired of seeing myself and every woman doing the impossible for others to love us."

My rewrite of the above speech:

It is literally possible to be a woman. I am living proof of this.

All women, like you, are very beautiful and very smart... you are good enough, and you are extraordinary.

You can be whatever size you want.

You can have as much money as you want.

You can be tough, and you can lead in whatever way you choose.

You don’t have to love being a mom. Raising children can be very challenging. You can talk about your kids as much or as little as you want.

You don’t have to be “professional” if you don’t want to, you also don’t have to take care of everyone else if you don’t want to.

You are not responsible for men’s misbehavior.

You can keep yourself pretty for men if you want, or not so pretty if you want.

If you are seen as threatening to other women, that is on them, not you.

You can stand out or be grateful if you choose to.

You will grow old, as all humans do. Along the way maybe you’ll sometimes be rude or show off or be selfish or stumble, or fail or show fear or even be sassy. This is all part of being human.

Yes, it’s very hard to make these choices in today’s culture, it can be contradictory to what society expects of us - and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you.

And it turns out, in fact, that you are worthy regardless of whether or not you get a medal or whether or not someone says thank you.

I'm tired of seeing every woman doing the impossible: Living for others instead of themselves.

Every single statement above is a choice. You have the power within you, despite what society and culture is telling you, to CHOOSE how to be, who to be.

What are you choosing?

What does it mean for you, fellow woman, to look inside and create your own standards, and live authentically to who YOU are, not who or what society tells you to be…?

Would love to hear your thoughts.
